Music Compiler
Job descriptionKey purpose of roleThe Music Compiler serves as the custodian of the station’s music identity, ensuring that the sound of Kfm 94.5 aligns with its strategic vision and audience expectations. This role is responsible for planning, curating, and executing the music strategy in close collaboration with the Music Manager, Programme Manager and Station Manager. The compiler builds and maintains daily playlists that reflect the station’s brand and programming goals, while also managing all music-related features, scheduling, and content requirements. The role demands a strong understanding of audience preferences, music trends, and radio programming to deliver a compelling and consistent listening experience. Key performance areas Ensure a consistent music product in line with the station strategy
Coordination with artists for key station events
Monthly reports (ICASA, SAMRO, SAMPRA, etc.)
• Matric • Relevant tertiary education Minimum years of experience • Minimum of three years music compiling experience at a Commercial Radio Station Additional role requirements • Proficiency in selector or similar music scheduling software. • Strong knowledge of contemporary music trends and genres. • Competency in audio editing software such as Adobe audition or equivalent. • Solid understanding of radio music formats and the commercial radio landscape. • Familiarity with ICASA, SAMRO, and SAMPRA reporting processes. • Ability to create and manage station playlists aligned with strategic music objectives. • Skilled in using music research to inform and refine music categories. • Proficient in Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. • Comfortable working with digital tools and systems for music management and reporting. • Attention to detail in managing song categories and balancing genres and tempos. • Disciplined and committed to meeting deadlines. • Resilient and composed under pressure. • Confident, assertive, and enthusiastic about radio and music. • Systematic, focused, and solution-driven. • Adaptable and open to change. • Able to take initiative and work independently. • A team player who collaborates effectively with on-air talent and internal teams. • Highly professional in interactions with listeners, music industry stakeholders, and colleagues. • Prior experience in media is advantageous.
