Occupational health nurse practitioner

Basic salary: R532 737 TO R560 139 per annum ● Ref no: CS 193/25 ● Various

Requirements:  
  • BTech in occupational health nursing
  • Four (4) to five (5) years’ relevant experience in occupational health including experience doing audiometry, spirometry, vision testing and conducting medicals
  • Certification in occupational health disciplines for audiometry and spirometry
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health legislation and compliance requirements
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) (Valid OH qualification must appear on SANC receipt)
  • SASOHN registration as an Audiometrist
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid code B driver’s licence (advantageous) and reliable transport.

Key performance areas:  
  • Perform medical surveillance and examinations to identify occupational health-related diseases within the City of Cape Town to ensure compliance with relevant OHS policies and related legislation
  • Coordinate and perform risk-based pre-employment medical evaluations according to the employee job descriptions, job performance requirements and relevant legislation to determine employee suitability
  • Perform specialised tests including vision testing, audiometry, spirometry and biological monitoring, in line with inherent job requirements of employees
  • Coordinate, implement and maintain an audiometry programme as part of the hearing conservation programme
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records and information
  • Coordinate ill-health incapacity case management in compliance with relevant legislation and policies
  • Conduct onsite health risk assessments to establish an exposure profile and ensure adequate medical surveillance in compliance with the terms of relevant legislation
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to promote and provide occupational health services
  • Identify and prioritise areas of research and participate in research programmes to keep abreast with the latest occupational health trends
  • Supervise administrative and cleaning staff.
