Multimedia Journalist (CPT)
Job descriptionTo conceptualise, produce, shoot and edit multimedia pieces for publication on digital platforms.The Multimedia Journalist is responsible for covering daily news, producing original feature pieces, filming and photographing news events, and contributing to the overall visual storytelling efforts of the newsroom. The role requires strong technical skills, editorial judgment, creativity, and the ability to work independently under pressure while meeting strict deadlines. The journalist is expected to uphold EWN’s editorial standards, values, and brand identity. Implementation: • Conceptualise, shoot, edit and produce multimedia pieces for digital platforms with technical accuracy and creativity • Cover daily news and produce feature stories across multiple beats • Capture high‑quality photographs and source additional visuals when required • Produce social media teasers, simple graphics and derivative content • Write captions, scripts and short written stories • Perform voiceovers where applicable • Livestream news events and assist with setup and operation of streaming tools • Ensure equipment readiness and responsible use of cameras, lights and software • Meet deadlines for all multimedia deliverables across platforms • Contribute to EWN’s YouTube and digital audience growth Quality Control: • Ensure all multimedia content meets editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, and clarity. • Perform quality checks on video outputs, including visual and audio integrity. • Maintain consistency with EWN’s brand tone and style • Verify compliance with copyright, ethical guidelines, and company values. • Properly archive footage and ensure safe backup processes • Apply sound judgment in sensitive stories, ensuring visuals and tone are appropriate. • Troubleshoot technical issues quickly to avoid delays in publishing. • Follow SOPs, internal processes and workflows for multimedia production and publishing Collaboration: • Collaborate with editors, reporters, and digital producers to deliver cohesive content • Proactively communicate progress, challenges, and deadlines clearly • Participate in editorial discussions and pitch meetings • Provide input during major project planning (documentaries, event coverage) Minimum required qualification: • Matric or equivalent • Relevant tertiary qualification • A valid drivers’ license Qualifications considered advantageous: • Qualification in Graphic Design/Animation and Visual Effects Minimum years of experience: • At least 2 to 3 years’ experience in a professional news environment Additional role requirements: • Portfolio of multimedia journalism work • Proficiency in filming, video editing, and photography • Technical expertise with DSLR/mirrorless cameras • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Audition etc.) • Understanding of YouTube analytics, as well as digital and social media platforms • Strong understanding of the South African news and current affairs landscape • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Storyboarding ability • Social media literacy and understanding of multimedia’s role in social • Experience with livestreaming software • Ability to write scripts and short written stories for digital • Graphic design and After Effects skills advantageous • Ability to file for radio advantageous • Strong time‑management skills and attention to detail • Ability to work independently and follow direction • Creativity, initiative, resilience, and adaptability • Willingness to work irregular hours and travel when required Suitable candidates will be selected in accordance with Primedia Broadcasting’s Employment Equity Policy.
