Company news: BESTmed announces 2008 Olympic sponsorship

BESTMed, one of the largest healthcare providers in South Africa, has announced its sponsorships for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Chief Executive Officer Dries la Grange announced that BESTmed will support four South African swimmers and two athletes.

“We are proud to support South Africa's swimming team captain and 50 and 100m back stroker, Gerhard Zandberg, the 50 and 100m breast stroker, Thabang Moeketsane, the 50 and 200m back and 100m fly stroker Garth Tune, and the 50 and 100m free and fly and 50m back stroker, Chanelle van Wyk.

“We are also proud to support the 100 and 200m sprinter Geraldine Pillay and 400 m hurdles and sprints and 4x400m relay athlete, LJ van Zyl, both from the University of Pretoria's athletics club, TuksSport.”

These sponsorships are geared towards supporting the athletes two fold - to train professionally full-time and to ensure that all their healthcare needs are met.

La Grange says as a corporate sponsor of Swimming South Africa BESTmed has been applauded by the national federation for its participation in developing and supporting sports.

“To witness the development and progression of young swimmers like Zandberg and Moeketsane becoming superstars in aquatics is extremely rewarding for the nation. As South Africans we have a heritage of producing world-class athletes and it is our role as a business to support the talent that we have. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community that we do business in.

“The Olympic Games in Beijing will be extremely competitive and we want our athletes to perform at their best. Our contribution is there to encourage them to support the country's vision of becoming a nation of winners,” says La Grange.

Head of TuksSport Kobus van der Walt says BESTmed's commitment to developing sports stars and its contribution over the years has assisted to build a pool of talent that will make South Africa proud on the world stage.
