Estate wins gold again, at prestigious London awards

Within weeks of its dual trophy win at a prestigious Belgian awards, Stellenbosch-based Spier Wines has won three gold medals at two of London's largest world wine awards.

Multi-award winning Spier Private Collection Shiraz 2005 and Spier Vintage Selection Shiraz/Mourvèdre/Viognier 2005 each won gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards. Spier Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 won the third gold medal at the International Wine Challenge.

Competition at both awards was characteristically tough, with just 2.84% of entries awarded gold overall. Decanter attracted a record entry of 9,219 wines, almost twice the amount entered to its inaugural event in 2004. The International Wine Challenge this year saw the submission of 9,422 wines.

The estate's MD Neville Carew said, “It looks as though we're set for another successful year; with steady market growth and a string of prestigious awards cementing our reputation for producing quality wines.”
