Nestle SA announces voluntary recall of coffee

Nestle South Africa on Thursday, 20 May 2010, announced the voluntary recall of its Alta Rica, Cap Colombie and Espresso soluble coffee range.

These were specialty varieties of Nescafe contained in a specific type of 100g glass jar with a distinctive plastic sleeve, the company said.

"It was discovered that some of these jars may be susceptible to breakage during the delivery process to customers and may contain small pieces of glass."

The company said the quality and safety of its products was "a non-negotiable priority".

Consequently, as a precautionary measure, it had decided to voluntarily recall the specialty range.

"We will be changing the packaging format before we reintroduce this coffee range to the market."

Consumers in possession of these products could call Nestle SA's Consumer Call Centre on 086-009-6116 (South Africa) or +27-11-889-6116 (Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland).

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and we would like to reassure our consumers that none of our other coffee products are affected," Nestle SA said.
