Netcare Garden City Hospital to join international ranks

Netcare Garden City Hospital has recently joined the ranks of the world's leading healthcare institutions by being awarded international Healthcare Accreditation and Quality Unit (HAQU) accreditation as well as ISO 9001:2000 certification. Netcare now has various fully accredited and certified hospitals throughout South Africa.

Commenting on this announcement Esmé Abrahams, general manager of Netcare Garden City said: “All tribute goes to the staff and management at the hospital for achieving this extraordinary feat. This clearly demonstrates that the patient is central to everything we do on a daily basis and that our employees are truly living the Netcare values.”

Netcare Garden City Hospital joins the prestigious ranks already occupied by eleven other Netcare hospitals - three of which received their accreditation and certification in 2009 and are set to retain this status until 2010.

HAQU is an operating division of CHKS Ltd Healthcare Accreditation and Quality Unit that undertakes programmes of quality assurance and quality improvement for healthcare providers in the public and dependent healthcare sectors in the UK and elsewhere in the world. The leading principle underpinning the development of the accreditation programmes is that good quality care and service is amongst others best assured when there is a strong commitment to continuous improvement in the safety of patient care and experience.

“The accreditations by the CHKS Accreditation Awards Panel attest to the fact that the quality of service delivered within these facilities is among the finest in the world. As part of this quality accreditation process, the Netcare facilities had to meet a number of stringent quality service criteria. All hospitals are subjected to ongoing standard and quality evaluations on an annual basis,” explains Abrahams.

She added that the accreditations formed part of a wider drive to implement an internationally acclaimed quality accreditation programme that will allow Netcare to benchmark itself against the world's finest healthcare standards. “As an industry leader, Netcare believes that it has a duty to retain and improve on this achievement at all times,” says Abrahams.

“We are looking forward to establishing a framework that can be used to monitor and refine our systems on an ongoing basis. The rigorous HAQU accreditation process will enable us to improve communication and team work, hone our policies and procedures to perfection, recognise and share good practice, better manage risk and improve confidence in our healthcare systems, enabling us all to concentrate on continuing to provide the finest possible patient care,” she concluded.
