Informal trading structure keeps city tidy

The mobile, self-contained vending units supplied by Gimme That!, a mobile-vending solutions company continue to provide a safe and tidy city centre in Cape Town after four years. The joint initiative between Metropolitan Health Group (MHG) and Gimme That! and endorsed by the Cape Town's Central City Improvement District (CCID) provides 28 lockable trolleys, relieving traders of the need to constantly carry stock and structure to and fro.

Tavaris Neosimau, area manager for the company says that vendors who have the correct permit (obtainable from the city council) may secure the daily use of a trolley for a monthly participation fee of R390. This fee, which most vendors choose to pay more affordably on a per-day basis, contributes towards the storage and maintenance of the trolleys and ongoing operational costs.
