These annual awards are a culmination of a 12-month programme that seeks to uplift and recognise women across the continent, celebrate their achievements and acknowledge their positive influences.

Commenting on her award, Kweyama noted that this award sends an important message of progressive transformation within the mining industry: "I am honoured to be amongst the inspirational women that have been acknowledged at these awards. This accolade proves that there is progress in redressing the inequality of the past in the mining industry and that the time is now to usher in a new generation of phenomenal women in mining."

Kweyama was appointed Executive Director of Anglo American in South Africa in September 2012. Prior to this, she was Executive Head of Human Resources at Anglo American's Platinum business. She is also the Vice-president of the South African Chamber of Mines, the first woman to hold this position.
