A new category, Best Young Analyst, has been added to Financial Mail's annual Top Analyst Awards programme.

The winner of the new category, awarded for best equity research and best non-equity research, will be announced on 27 May in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Previously called Ranking the Analyst, the Top Analyst Awards are known as the 'Oscars' of the financial industry and is sponsored by INET BFA in partnership with research company Intellidex. Winners are awarded according to various measurement criteria and the awards have become the benchmark of SA's leading assessment of institutional stockbrokers.

"We are proud to have hosted the ranking of analysts research for the past 30 years. The research has become a benchmark of excellent in the financial industry, and we hope and trust it helps improve transparency and understanding of financial analysis," says Financial Mail editor Tim Cohen.

Industry of giants

The new Top Young Analyst category was introduced to recognise and award analysts under the age of 30. The introduction of the new category will allow young up-and-coming stars to be noticed in an industry of giants and highly experienced professionals.

"We are excited about the new category and that we can assist towards creating a platform to profile up and coming talent, and be part of the Young Analysts' journey towards becoming the investment leaders of the future," says Andrew Philbrick, CEO at INET BFA.

A new ranking system will be introduced this year into the corporate access section and will see a total of 44 research sectors awarded as well as the highly coveted overall Top Analyst of the Year.
