Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts artists announced

The line-up of artists for the 2011 Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, which starts on 20 November, 2011, and runs until 1 April, 2012, has been announced. There will be a mix of old and new from a variety of musical genres.

Old favourites The Parlotones, Johnny Clegg, Prime Circle, Freshlyground, Goldfish and more will be back, as well as Locnville and Jax Pannik on 20 November and Van Coke Kartel, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Jack Parow and JR will take the stage on 27 November. Lira, on 4 December, starts the lead up to the festive season and the scene hots up with The Parlotones giving the summer holidays a boost on 11 December.

On Monday, 26 December, Zebra & Giraffe will wind up the weekend of partying and Mango Groove will usher in 2012, playing on 1 January.

The Graeme Watkins Project and Plush will make their first appearances at the garden on 8 January and Johnny Clegg will be appearing on 15 January.

Folk and blues

The acoustic sounds and vocals of Dan Patlansky and Natasha Meister will bring some folk and blues into the mix on 22 January.

Newcomers to Kirstenbosch Flash Republic and Foto Na Dans star on 5 February, while Going Back to the Crossroads (12 February) will be followed by Taxi Violence and Machineri on 19 February.

For classical music lovers the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra lends a tranquil note on 26 February. The Blues Broers, featuring Albert Frost, appear on 4 March followed by Kirstenbosch favourites Goldfish on 11 March.

First appearance by Hugh Masekela

One of the highlights of the season will be Freshlyground on 18 March. The penultimate concert on 25 March features legendary musician Hugh Masekela, making his first appearance at Kirstenbosch. On 1 April Hot Water and Wrestlerish will get your toes tapping as season closes in style.

The Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts take place at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (Rhodes Avenue, Newlands, Cape Town) on Sundays from 5pm to 7pm. Gates open at 4pm.
