Summer fashion fancies at the V&A Waterfront

Friday nights V&A Waterfront's Summer 2008/2009 Fashion Collection was a great excuse to get all glammed up and was even worth the pain of some sparkly silver heels but only just (will not be wearing those again for a while).
Summer fashion fancies at the V&A Waterfront

Braving some serious wind we arrived on top of the roof of the Breakwater parking garage were the fashion show was being held in a marquee which luckily stood its ground and didn't pull a “Wizard of Oz” on us. The inside of the Marquee was very pretty and grotto like, many fairy lights and chandeliers hung from the roof and the quirky runway on one side of the tent was filled with quaint objects including rocking horses, blow up bunnies, gramophones and on one end a fake flower entangled washing line. If the decor was anything to go by retro - Victorian style fashion would be making an appearance, which it did amongst other styles seen that night.

Natalie Becker mc'ed the event and handed out a few pairs of sunglasses courtesy of the Sunglasses hut to three lucky winners. The fashion show showcased some of the best summer fashions around from the top local and international brands. The general theme seen through most of the designs was playfully feminine and flirty with quirky touches, including the men's wear to some degree (the metro sexual look is definitely here to stay for a while). There were even some children's clothes modelled. Sindy confidently announced that they were the designers as they came out onto the stage. But in her defence we were sitting quite far away from them at the time and obviously they were not very tall so couldn't have been the models… and the wine was free.

In between the shows delicious canapés were served and jewellery and sunglass models strutted around allowing the audience a closer look at their wares.

Once the shows had ended guests were invited to get down and boogie on the dance floor. During a particularly enthusiastic ballet dancers impression I managed to knock a tray full of (luckily) empty glasses from the hands of one of the waitress. (Always used to get irritated by people like that from my waitressing days, sure she was as well (sorry)) Sindy also managed to smash a wine glass during a hearty cheers as well as accidently dismantle one of the gramophones while doing some model impersonations. Apart from these mild destructions on our part it was a fabulous and glamorous event which showcased some great summer fashion trends to look forward to, (when summer eventually gets here).
