With over 100 human resources policies and employee offerings measuring up to, or superior to, the international standards of best practice, Volkswagen offers its employees outstanding working conditions and looks after its staff exceptionally well. The CRF Institute, which conducts the independent research for certification, is a specialist firm that produces the highly anticipated European, Asian and African Top Employer Indices each year.

Contributing to a winning culture

Percy Smith, director of human resources at Volkswagen credited the staff as the cornerstone of the organisation's considerable achievements. "Volkswagen recently celebrated its 60th year in the South African automotive industry. Our incredible history and heritage of success can be attributed to every single individual that has worked here and contributed to our winning culture. It is the people of Volkswagen that make us great and drive this German company that has a proudly South African heart," said Smith.

"I enjoy working for one of the leading automotive companies in the world," said Nolusindiso Vellem, a supervisor at launch management. "At Volkswagen, I have the opportunity to make a real difference at the same time forge an exciting career. The type of individual that thrives at Volkswagen is a hard worker, self-starter, positive thinker and good listener. The person must be energetic and not afraid of being stretched beyond their comfort zone."

Samantha Crous, general manager at CRF Institute South Africa said: "The outstanding employee offerings that the certified Best Employers have in place for their staff show that they regard talent management as a top priority. They do not just provide their employees with the things that interest them now, but also with those that will prepare them for their next career step within the organisation. Best employers clearly show that they appreciate and nurture their employees."
