Finalists will showcase their creations at the Mr Price 031 Collection taking place 19-21 May featuring established talents such as Terrence Bray, Holmes Brothers, Leigh Schubert, Nguni Shade and Amanda Laird Cherry.
Entrants must submit a storyboard featuring six outfits (either ladies or menswear), including garment illustration and mood direction with detailed technical drawings and a written motivation. The winner stands to receive a cash prize of R20 000 to further his or her career, an internship at Mr Price and the opportunity to design a range to be sold in select stores.
"To be successful in the current economic climate, designers need to consider their designs from more than just an aesthetic angle. The organisation provides interns with the opportunity to see beyond the design, from manufacturing, marketing and even visual merchandising. They will see their designs transformed into actual garments that will be sold in our stores," said Louise Holmes, marketing director of Mr Price.
