Pain conference aims to be best ever

The 4th Pan African Pain Congress, to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, 11-13 March 2011, is a collaboration between the African Association for the study of Pain (AASP), NeuPSIG, the London Pain Consortium, and PainSA - and aims to be the best ever.

The aim of the congress is to highlight the current state of the art knowledge in all fields of pain and to translate these ideas into everyday pain practice.

Special emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of pain management. Delegates will also be brought up to date on the latest research being undertaken in all fields of pain management.

Typical topics include peripheral neuropathic pain, post herpetic neuralgia, AIDS pain, lower back pain and failed back syndrome, end of life care, fibromyalgia and rheumatic pain.

Speakers include:

• Prof. Anthony Dickenson, Professor of Neuropharmacology in the Department of Pharmacology at University College, London, United Kingdom, who will speak on: What's happening in Pain physiology;
• Dr Nadine Attal, head of Pain Centre from INSERM APHP who will speak on Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of neuropathic pain;
• Prof. Duncan Mitchell, Emeritus Professor of Physiology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg who will speak on Epidemiology in Africa;
• Dr Rainer Freynhagen, from Benedictus Krankenhaus Tutzing, who will speak on The neuropathic component of back pain - evaluation and treatment,

The conference is CPD accredited: 24 points
