A Christmas Spoof for Joburg

Spoof Full of Sugar, taking a slice of musical theatre, a healthy dollop of broad humour and a pinch of murder mystery is coming to the stage at the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square, Sandton from 23 November to 31 December 2009.
A Christmas Spoof for Joburg

Acclaimed performer Malcolm Terrey directs the crème de la crème of South African talent in this hilarious and totally irreverent satirical musical revue in which familiar show tunes blend with outrageous comedy in this tongue-in-cheek look at the seedier side of South African show business and celebrities.

Nothing in sacred in the razor-sharp look at the entertainment industry, with a crooked finger being pointed at models, agents, critics, celebrities, large scale musicals, sex shows, TV presenters, socialites, the SABC, the tabloid press and others.

A tricky animal

Director Malcolm Terrey said: “Musical revue is a tricky 'animal' and the cast have to work together as a team both on stage and off. The show is fast moving with 30-odd wig and costume changes, so everyone has to be disciplined and organised whilst still retaining a sense of fun that will be infectious to an audience. Not easy.”

Terry continued: “ In the case of Spoof Full Of Sugar I have been blessed with a cast who are everything you could ask for: funny, attractive, talented and highly professional in their approach."

Audiences will relish seeing the ever popular actor, Brandon Auret (District 9, Isidingo, Hansie - The Movie) back on the musical stage after a hiatus, alongside the incredible vocal talents of Ntsepa Pitjeng (Top 10 Idols finalist, Muvhango, Madiba Magic), Dianne Simpson (Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Generations) and Pieter Bosch Botha (Noises off, Dames en Here, Villa Rosa). The cast will be led by the deft Dawid Boverhoff (Footloose, Saturday Night Fever, Madiba Magic) as musical director.

Old Uncle Barry and all

No one is safe from the eagle eye of the Spoof team - if they're famous and they're in the public eye they'll make it into the show. Some of the South African celebrities making it into the script include: Noelene, Barry Ronge, Nicky Greenwall, Debra Patta, FHM Models, Joost vd Westhuizen, Steve Hofmeyr, and Gwen Gill.

Spoof Full Of Sugar is playing at the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square in Sandton from 23 November to 31 December 2009 and a host of corporate banqueting packages have been developed to help tailor-make the ideal year-end event.
