Free jazz concert in Cape Town

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival's Free Community Concert will be held in Greenmarket Square on April 1, 2010, and will feature some of the festival's top artists.

Top artists who are in town to participate in the 11th Cape Town International Jazz Festival will be sharing their passion with an expected 8000 music fans at the free concert, which starts at 5.30pm.

Andrew Boraine, CEO of the Cape Town Partnership has called on Capetonians and visitors to come into the city centre and join in the jazz on 1 April. “This is an amazing opportunity for everyone to enjoy music in a public square of such historical significance. These are great artists. Last year there were 8000 of us - and this year there's space for more,” he said.

The line-up includes four of the festival's headline acts:

  • Icelandic jazz-funk fusion ensemble, Mezzoforte
  • South Africa's Glen Robertson Jazz Band with its unique gospel sound
  • Hot new talent Jonathan Rubain
  • Japanese club jazz band Soil and “Pimp” Sessions
  • A performance by the Diski Dancers.

Diski (township lingo for soccer), is a uniquely South African reflection of the rhythm of the beautiful game that won't fail to get you joining in. If you want to learn the moves before April 1, go to http://bit.ly/9WPxG.

Each artist will perform for approximately 30 minutes.
