No, it's not just an event - each art form is actually connected in strange, amusing and delightful ways.The audience is taken on a journey through visual art, music, food, wines and aromatics that are presented to complement one another.The relationship between each of the components is curated collectively by the artists in each domain and collab.studio.The audience is 'guided' through the experience by bringing together various components at a single location within the space.
The project is the brainchild of New Yorker Ashok Matthai, created in partnership with LuAndre Volschenk, who was born in Cape Town - a truly African artist with worldly inspirations. His artistic abilities shone brightly from a young age, as his teachers and friends were fascinated by his natural talent with art. Under guidance from distinguished local artists, he further refined his skills and started exhibiting his art from the age of 16. LuAndre has travelled widely across the world, which has developed his versatile and eclectic style, absorbing cultures through his travels. He views much of his work as a personal and emotional expression, influenced by people, cultures and journeys. His favourite medium is charcoal and acrylic, and often experiments with mixed medium in his art. LuAndre's commissioned work can be seen in homes in Cape Town and the US.
Other artists include Bryan Farrow, who is a DJ/ Entertainer from Cape Town and has been a DJ for 25 years. He is currently presenting a radio show on Mutha FM and residenting at clubs all around Cape Town. He also runs an agency providing top clubs with DJs
Spanish filmmaker Pablo Pinedo spent several years experimenting in the underground video scene in Barcelona. Thereafter he moved to Italy in search of the roots of the Italian neo-realism. During his stay in Rome he acquired strong skills in cinematography. Currently he directs and produces at EveryWhere Films.
Jennifer Holmes, an accredited sommelier through the International Wine & Spirit Education Trust, as well as the Cape Wine Academy, now privately exports South African wines, does sales and tastings to fund her late-night vinous habits and continually develop her palate. Funny, brainy and unapologetically tipsy, her goal in life is to realise her lifelong dream to hold the rare qualification of World Wine Master and always to inspire wine lovers and enthusiasts with her staggering knowledge and passion for this luxurious liquid.
Talented and inspirational chef Violet-Lee Esau is very passionate in what she creates and received her professional culinary training from the Institute of Hospitality Management. She holds two diplomas - one in pastry and the second in professional cooking. She has worked as a professional chef at restaurants in top-tier hotels in the Western Cape.
"I don't just like food, I love what I can create with it! It's like doing my own art, but just with food. I love to experiment with different flavours, textures and cuisines."
Ralien van Eeden and Rosemary Zietsman from Vizi Photography ZAR are professional photographers located in Cape Town. Vizi was started five years ago by Rosemary Zietsman and Andre Viviers. Ralien van Eeden joined this year.
"The collab.studio was created to uplift young inspiring artist in the art, music, food and wine industry," says Volschenk. Giving these inspiring artist a platform to showcase, pre-selected talents."
