Create your own Starry Night, go Artjamming

I never was a painter; my creativity unfortunately is bound to ideas rather than creating pretty pictures on a canvas. I'm in the middle of Painting by Numbers, and that's as good as it gets for me. But, luckily for me, and perhaps you too, you don't have to be a Van Gogh to enjoy Artjamming. You can create your own Starry Night and walk away glad to have done it.
Create your own Starry Night, go Artjamming

Invited to a tour of the newly opened Artjamming venue at Green Point's stunning new Cape Quarter, we gladly accepted. It's a great boutique setting and easily accessible if you're in the area. The Artjamming centre is tucked upstairs on the second floor in a chic venue that has plenty of space for you to let your imagination run wild.

According to Leora Israel, co-owner of Artjamming South Africa, people walk in not really expecting to create anything close to masterful - and are very modest about their painting skills, but they're quite surprised and happy with the end product they walk away with.

So how does it work?

Basically, you purchase a canvas in the size you like, ranging from R95 to R600 depending on what you have in mind. Fill your palette with an array of colours - over 40 to choose from - and paint to your heart's content. If you need a helpful tip or two there's an expert artist on the sidelines to guide you along. There really is no structure or limits to your creativity, but if you intend on splashing around there's a special corner to do so - and it's all acrylic and non-toxic, so paint that lands in your hair can easily be removed - plenty of mess, but none of the fuss.

Once you're done you can blow-dry your work of art, head off home and hang it in your lounge, dining room, kitchen - or even take it to work and hang it in your office. In fact, you could even sell it! Art is subjective after all; who knows who might fall in love with your work?

The Cape Quarter Artjamming venue accomodates birthday parties, team-building exercises and any other group affairs.
