The ceremony celebrated the exceptional performance of 2013 matric learners. Launched in 2005, Promaths continues to support the secondary schooling system by providing intensive additional tuition to students studying Pure Maths and Physical Science.

Of the 268 Promaths learners who wrote the matric Maths exam last year, over 100 achieved distinctions. 226 learners wrote Physical Science and 100 received distinctions.

Setlogane Manchidi, head of Social Investment at Investec, said that with such excellent passes in Maths and Science, Promaths learners had not only increased their range of career choices but were now better positioned to gain entry into universities and to access the much needed bursaries and scholarships.

"Having set aside much of their weekends for extra lessons over the last three years, they have also acquired an amazing work ethic which will stand them in good stead, both in their studies and professional careers. Congratulations to the Promaths class of 2013, they have done us proud and we look forward to maintaining our relationship with them."

With the 2013 matric results, the quality of passes in the subjects of Maths and Physical Science has once again come to the fore. Commenting on this, Tumelo Mabitsela, managing director of Kutlwanong said, "Realising the urgency around this issue and the impact it is likely to have on the current skills' shortage South Africa faces, we launched four new centres in different provinces to increase the provincial footprint of the programme. This expansion and its potential is something we are very proud of."

At the ceremonies, merit awards valued at R15 000 were presented to each of top learners to use towards tertiary education. Recipients were those who achieved an 80% overall aggregate as well as receiving 90% and above in Maths. A total of R540 000 in merit awards was awarded to the programme's top achievers from Dobsonville and QwaQwa.
