This year's ride takes off at Mkhuze in the north of KwaZulu-Natal on February 15 and finishes 1 736 kilometres later in Cape Town on March 8.It aims to raise R350 000.
The race has raised in excess of R3 600 000 since it started in 2006.
The Connection Ride is one of Engen's numerous community outreach initiatives through its Dealer Community Partnership Programme, which supports dealers that seek to help uplift their neighbouring communities. The ride raises funds for various underprivileged communities and projects, including old age homes, hospital projects, crèches and schools for children with disabilities.
Riders will stop at Engen filling stations in various towns along the route and present a donation to charities or community projects. Each donation is identified and made by the local Engen service station, and is then matched by Engen.
"Engen is delighted to be part of this great initiative. We believe it is vital for our dealers to get involved in the communities in which they operate," said Khanyisa Balfour, Engen's Corporate Social Investment Manager.
This year's Connection Ride visits more than fourteen towns in different provinces. The fifteen riders that will take part this year are Rotarians, of which some are Engen dealers.
