Port St Johns municipality forced to close

After failing to pay millions of rands for lifesaving services, the Port St John's municipality has been forced to close its doors. The sheriff delivered court papers to the municipality forcing it to close down according to an article published in The Herald.

Port St Johns is a popular tourist destination on the Wild Coast but the cash-strapped municipality has been unable to pay its bills, resulting in its closure, which has been confirmed by the town's mayor, Mnyamezeli Mangqo.

The Mthatha High Court granted the South African Coast Guards an order against the municipality to pay the organisation R10,9-million owed to it.

Perhaps the organisation should take over running the town and use it as a national training facility for coast guards around the country.
