Ohemile Moses Maamogwa (50) has been missing since the accident, while the body of Tanki Samuel Lepitikoe, the other mine worker involved was recovered on 19 May 2016.
The intensive round-the-clock search-and-rescue operation in very challenging and unstable ground conditions was conducted by specialised mine rescue teams from Impala Platinum and the Mine Rescue Services (MRS), supported by the department of minerals resources.

Impala Rustenburg, together with the DMR and AMCU, will now mobilise specialised teams to investigate this accident.
