A Bright Start for underprivileged children

Capetonians who wish to make a real difference in the lives of poor children in Cape Town are invited to join Cape Town's very own Amazing Race on Saturday, 26 October 2013m and raise funds to add seven additional children to the Bright Start education support programme in 2014.
A Bright Start for underprivileged children

Organised by Bright Start, a Hout Bay-based non-profit organisation which currently supports 26 children and their families, the Bright Start Amazing Race is the ideal team-building activity and provides the perfect platform for friendly rivalry and outdoor summer-time play with soul.

Insect-eating, mountain climbing, swimming with sharks and balancing acts aside; the Bright Start amazing race will see teams of four driving to co-ordinated pit-stops which showcase the best and most beautiful sites that the Mother City has to offer.

    Education support programme

With a fundraising goal of R40,000 for this first event, monies raised will go toward placing seven additional underprivileged children in prominent local schools in 2014; giving them the opportunity to learn and excel through ongoing support and guidance within an education support programme that runs from pre-primary to matric.

"Our programme funds school fees, transport, uniforms, sports activities, cultural events and holiday programme activities, along with on-going mentorship, enabling Bright Start children to have the same opportunities as privileged children," said Carolynne Stelling, Bright Start executive director. "We also offer continual guidance and education to the families of our children, as well as life skills training to the broader community through monthly workshops."

The Bright Start Amazing Race will be a fun day out and is manageable for all fitness levels. A sense of humour and joy for life is ideal. The event starts at midday and costs R800 per team of four people in one self-driven team car.
