    TopTV tries for porn, again

NEWSWATCH: TopTV will be trying again today to get the go-ahead to flight porn, reports ITWeb, and David Bullard, writing in Politicsweb, reckons it's about time the ANC stopped using the SABC as a 'parking bay' for unwanted cadres. Finally, CNET reports Google is being begged to save its Reader service.
    TopTV tries for porn, again

    For more:

    • ITWeb: TopTV porn hearings tomorrow... Well, the news report was published yesterday, so the hearings are today. Apparently the channel's interim CEO Eddie Mbalo claims that TopTV is not trying to use porn to save itself by attempting to launch pornographic channels.

ITWeb quotes him as saying: "Nothing could be further from the truth. As previously stated, the business requires a capital injection from a strategic equity partner. It would therefore be both naïve and malicious to conclude that the granting of permission to broadcast channels would be sufficient to save a company that requires a capital injection."

Naturally, there are those who are bitterly opposed to the TopTV plan and they are sure to fight the application as hard as they can.

Then there are others who are wary of this country being turned into what they consider to be a nanny state in which we are told what we can or cannot watch or do.

As with anything, a balance needs to be found, and way to manage that balance so that freedoms are not infringed, but nor are sensibilities.

    • Politicsweb: His Master's Voice... Weighing into the great SABC debate, David Bullard reckons "it's time the ANC stopped using the SABC as a parking bay for its unwanted cadres".

Many will agree with him, and more than once the corporation has been called "a circus".

That begs the question: What's the difference between a circus and the SABC?

Answer: The SABC has more clowns.

    • CNET: Petitions beg Google to reconsider closure of Reader... Google announced the closure of the service and that sparked a deluge of appeals to rescind their decision.

If that many people like a service you are providing, it might be a good idea to listen to them.
