Green Building Council offers courses for on-going education

In response to evident need, coupled with industry demand, the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) continues to offer workshops in addition to their existing accredited professional training courses.

In anticipation of the launch of the Green Star SA Commercial Interiors Tool later this year, the GBCSA is offering a course, Greening the Inside: Commercial Interiors, an introduction to green interior design. Course material was developed by Michelle Ludwig, a commercial sustainable interior architect, and green design consultant. The course, which is taking place in Cape Town on 8 May 2012, is suitable for anyone who is involved in building selection, brief development, consultant engagement, project design and delivery, supervision or construction of interiors projects. No green building knowledge or experience is required and attendees will earn 0.3 CPD points in category one from both SAIA and CESA.

Course on certification process

The Green Star SA Project Certification Workshop is aimed at those who wish to gain greater insight into the certification process and the collation of high-quality Green Star SA submissions for formal green building certification. The course offers guidance and clarity on the individual credit topics - these being energy conditional requirements and greenhouse gas emissions, air change effectiveness, thermal comfort, daylight and daylight glare control. The dates for this course are Cape Town, 28 May and Johannesburg, 28 June. This course is validated for 0.4 CPD points in category one from CESA and SAIA and is suitable for any professional interested in deepening their understanding of the Green Star SA rating system.

The one day Green Star SA Simulations and Submissions Seminar looks at 3D computer modelling as a tool for demonstrating and then improving the performance of your building through design. The course explores the various types of software available, demonstrates how it can be used to show compliance with relevant credits in the Energy and IEQ categories and works through a case study. Groups are limited to 20 allowing ample time for interaction with Chilufya Lombe, mechanical engineer, Green Star SA Assessor and experienced 3D modeller. This course is validated for 1 CPD point in category one from CESA and SAIA and will be held in Johannesburg on 26 June.

The Green Star SA Accredited Professional Course is the GBCSA's core offering that introduces the Green Star rating tools and is the first requirement for obtaining status as a Green Star SA Accredited Professional. Courses will be held in Port Elizabeth on 24 May; Johannesburg on 6 June; Durban on 7 June and in Cape Town on 2 August. This course is validated for 1 CPD point in category one from CESA and SAIA.
