Eurobest 2008 winners announced

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: The first Eurobest Festival reached its conclusion last week, with Eurobest Award winners - including those of the inaugural The Idea - Eurobest's Young Creative Competition - honoured at a much-anticipated awards ceremony.

A record 5896 entries were received this year, out of which 1199 were shortlisted. Judging in Stockholm, Sweden, saw the juries award a total of 249 winners; 19 winners in the TV/Cinema category, 25 in Print, 35 in Outdoor, 31 in Direct, 27 in Sales Promotion, 2 in Radio, 33 in Interactive, 36 in Media, 35 in Design and 6 in Integrated.

The most awarded country was Germany with 81, followed by Sweden with 41 and Belgium in third place, with 23 winners.

Grands Prix

The TV/Cinema Grand Prix went to DDB London for the VW Polo commercial ‘Dog'. Awarded the Print Grand Prix was DDB Amsterdam's ad ‘Product Recall' for VW Golf. DDB Amsterdam also took the Outdoor Grand Prix for Central Beheer Achmea's ‘Back of the Bus'. Winning the Sales Promotion Grand Prix was Heimat Berlin's ‘House of Imagination' for Hornbach. Norpol+ Hamburg took home the first ever Design Grand Prix called ‘Origami' for ASICS. In the Media category, MPG London took the Grand Prix for BBC iPlayer's ‘Targeting the Zone of Disappointment'.

No Grand Prix was awarded in the Interactive, Radio, Direct and Integrated categories.

New to 2008 was the Interactive Agency of the Year Award, which went to Farfar in Stockholm. In second place was Agency Republic in London and in third place, Nordpol in Hamburg.

Joint winners

TBWA\Paris and DDB Germany, Berlin were joint winners of The European Agency of the Year, with DDB Amsterdam coming in third place.

The Idea - Eurobest's Young Creative Competition, which launched at the festival, was won by one of the Swedish teams made up of Carl-Frederik Jannerfeldt from Farfar, Nina Åkestam from Garbergs and Emmeli Österdahl of Lowe Brindenfors.

Sixty leading creatives from 21 European countries came together to judge the best of European creativity. Mark Waites, joint creative director and founding partner of Mother, UK, headed the TV/Cinema, Print, Outdoor and Radio jury while Matias Palm-Jensen, creative dresident of Farfar, Sweden, chaired two juries, the Interactive as well as the Integrated jury.

The first-ever Eurobest Design Jury was led by Sylvia Vitale Rotta, CEO of Team Créatif, France. London based Melanie Varley, chief executive EMEA of Mediaedge:cia was appointed Media jury president and the Direct and Promo jury was chaired by Kurt Georg Dieckert, chief creative officer of TBWA\Germany.

Organised by the same team behind the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival and the Dubai Lynx International Advertising Festival, the Eurobest Advertising Festival is a purely European event.
