Woman GM for SABC Western Cape office

The SABC has appointed Nomfundo Mpuntsha as GM responsible for its crucial Western Cape regional office. The appointment makes her the first woman to head up regional operations of the public broadcaster, and puts her at the helm of the largest office outside of the company's Auckland Park headquarters. Strini Naicker has also recently been appointed GM for radio sales in the Commercial Enterprises division.

Last year SABC group CEO Adv Dali Mpofu announced the appointment of six women to its top structure. This latest appointment affirms the SABC's commitment to putting women in strategic positions in the corporation. The SABC has regional offices in all provinces.

Mpuntsha has a legal background and joins the SABC from Parliament, where she worked as parliamentary procedural specialist, providing support to the plenaries and business of the National Assembly. In this capacity, she also rendered supportive services to international parliamentary bodies, including those in other African countries.

Naicker joined SABC in 2003 as a revenue manager: radio and TV. A year later in 2004 he rose to the position of national sales and deals manager, a position he held until his recent appointment.

Part of Naicker's plans is to make the department more client-centric, increase accountability and make the radio sales department a one stop solution for clients.

"SABC Radio has been ranked as the number one best managed company in the radio broadcasting sector in the 2005/2006 edition of Top 500 - South Africa's best managed company; achieving this sort of feat is thanks to the commitment and dedication of a competent team," comments Naicker.

His new portfolio spans the sales team across all 18 SABC radio stations, with a staff complement of over 200 people. Radio and TV sales are responsible for over 70% of SABC's classical revenue.
