The theme for World Environment Day is 'Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care' and UNEP is urging people to live sustainably by doing more and better, with less.
Judiet Barnes of Cape Point Partnership says, "Visitors who enter Cape Point, a Natural World Heritage Site, are actively contributing to the responsible management of the planet's natural resources, as this entry is a conservation fee that allows Table Mountain National Park to sustain and preserve over 7 750 hectares of indigenous fauna and flora surrounding the tip of the Cape Peninsula and other National Parks in South Africa."
Capetonians and visitors alike are encouraged to make use of affordable ways in which to experience the natural environment that provides the backdrop to our beautiful city this World Environment Day.
"Visitors to Cape Point are given access to a pristine and incredibly beautiful, natural experience that is accessible to locals, even on a budget," said Barnes. "With the indispensable role SANParks plays in preserving the environment for future generations, it is crucial for us as a community to support their efforts to carry on enjoying the parks they so beautifully conserve."
Capetonians can access Cape Point for under R10 per entry using My Green Card, which costs R110 and entitles the holder to 12 entries into any of Table Mountain National Park's pay points over a 12 month period. Visit capepoint.co.za/visitor-info/my-green-card.
Further discounts at Cape Point include the winter special that will run during government school holidays from 27 June to 19 July 2015. Kids will benefit from a free ride on the electric powered Flying Dutchman Funicular when accompanied by a full paying adult, and a free kids meal for every main meal ordered at the Two Oceans Restaurant.
