Paddling for pink at the Dusi

Men's Health Look 2008 winner Brendan Currin is a final year medical student and is passionate about saving lives; a passion that lead him to contact CANSA to help raise funds for breast cancer while competing in the 2009 Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon.

Currin's paddling partner is Alice Rawlinson, and thanks to her father, the couple are paddling in a bright pink double canoe.

"I have been trying to work out how to get down the river in a pink canoe and still look like a man," Currin laughs. "It all clicked when I started watching the cricket on TV lately where the test match was dedicated to breast cancer awareness.

"I thought completing the challenge dressed completely in pink and actually paddling for breast cancer awareness in SA would really get people to sit up and take notice of this terrible form of cancer. I think it will be a good thing for me to show that at heart we are all really breast men! (Plus, 1% of men actually get breast cancer)," he says.

Cause Marketing Fundraisers are assisting the two to create awareness and raise funds for breast cancer. All funds raised will go towards the first ever Mobile Mammography Unit in South Africa. This unit will be launched in March 2009.

The Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon took place 15 - 17 January and covered 210 kilometres. For more information, contact Sharon or Jennifer on +27 (0)11 608 4144, go to www.bcfr.co.za or email or .
