Chartered marketing exams this month

The next Chartered Marketing (CM) board exams have been scheduled for 27 August at the Wits Business School in Johannesburg, with Cape Town following on 28 October at the University of Stellenbosch Business School. The board examination forms the final component of the South African CM qualification programme.

The Chartered Marketer is the highest level of professional recognition for marketers in South Africa, with the official programme made up of a preparatory course and a Board Exam. CM status distinguishes exemplary marketers and, on a broader basis, aims to perpetuate marketing excellence.

Michele Serfontein, Head of Quality Management at the Marketing Federation of South Africa (mfsa), explains that the CM programme involves a process of application, pre-qualification and a screening test, which aim to assess the currency of the applicant's knowledge and skills. Candidates must pass the test to qualify for the board exam.

"Once this process is successfully completed, candidates are registered and must attend an intensive three-day workshop, preceded by an extensive reading programme in which they are exposed to the most up-to-date marketing theory and strategies.

"The three-day workshop, designed by leading marketing professors and academics, has been designed to equip candidates with the necessary skills required to pass the final examination. Case studies ensure that this knowledge is firmly grounded in practical applications."

Board examinations, as well as the process, are completed on submission of a case literature based on the candidate's work experience.

Screening tests are conducted by arrangement and workshops have been scheduled for 19 to 21 August in Johannesburg and 20 to 22 October in Cape Town.
