The M-Net and Nedbank Walk-a-Block for CHOC and Hospice is a fundraising event designed to be a festive day for the whole family, where everyone can walk a little way to make a difference in the lives of children and adults cared for by CHOC and Hospice.
Figjam Marketing, event organisers of the national M-Net and Nedbank Walk-a-Block for CHOC and Hospice, explains: "By simply donating R20, receiving a pair of shoelaces and walking the block, we can show that people walk for people."
Corporate South Africa is being encouraged to get their staff, clients, suppliers and families to walk for people by hosting their own walk-a-block for CHOC and Hospice event at their offices on Friday 3rd November. Staff can even walk around their desks, parking lots, office parks or wherever they can to show their support.
CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation, a national voluntary organisation, reaches out to children and their parents suffering from Cancer and life threatening blood disorders. Childhood cancer has the highest cure rate if the child is diagnosed early and treated correctly. CHOC assists these children and families by providing support, necessary information, accommodation and simply someone that others can turn to in need.
The Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCS) is an association of 75 independent member hospices committed to providing palliative care for people with incurable and life-limiting conditions, and their families. HPCA members are found in all nine provinces of South Africa, in rural, urban, peri-urban and metropolitan areas. Hospices began in South Africa 28 years ago to provide community home-based palliative care, mainly through home-based care programmes, and Day care, with some hospices having small in-patient units, when patients cannot be cared for at home. Palliative care teams assist hospitals to provide care in certain areas, i.e., Grahamstown, Johannesburg, Pretoria
