Jesse Clegg back at The Fringe

Johnny Clegg's son Jesse, will be making a return to The Fringe in the Joburg Theatre from 17 to 20 June, 2010.

Jesse Clegg released his first CD "When I Wake Up" in October 2008, which has since charted two number one singles countrywide and achieved gold status. Since the release of the album, he has also been nominated for 3 SAMAs, has performed around the country as well as being part of the Mandela Day at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on 18 July, 2009, alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, WILL.I.AM, Alicia Keyes, Wyclef Jean, Josh Groban and many more.

Experimented with different instruments

Since childhood, Jesse has been tuned into the music industry spending many months at a time on the road with his father, Johnny Clegg. In school Jesse experimented with a number of different instruments, including saxophone, clarinet, drums and piano, until he finally settled on guitar. He started playing when he was about 13, focusing mostly on chord structures and simple licks.

After Jesse matriculated, he took a gap year in order to record more demo tracks and finally put together an album. He also started a band where he got the opportunity to rehearse and perform some of the songs around Johannesburg, appearing under a number of different band names.
