The winners are Lentswe Chauke (7), Josline Engelbrecht (6), Lehlohonolo Jaane (7), Jonathan Maremba (6), Olwethu Mdlalose (10), Thabang Morapedi (5), Landon Naidoo (7), Lerato Sebiloane (10), Saudah Sultaana (8) and Cole Williams (5).

The competition offered 10 full primary school tuition bursaries – potentially worth more than R263,000 each – which will allow the winning children to complete their primary school tuition at any Spark School from 2019 from whatever grade they will be in next year (or from Grade R if they have not yet started school) to the end of Grade 7.

Five of the winners already attend Spark Schools, while the remainder will be joining the Spark family for the first time.

Spark Schools may be a relative newcomer to the local private education scene but it is already having a huge impact with 20 primary schools and one high school in its network from 2019.

Earlier this year, it was placed in the top three in a list of the top 10 private schools in Johannesburg by the publication SA Diaries.

The school uses a blended learning model that combines direct instruction with technology. After children are taught in class, they move to a learning lab, where computers with adaptive software track and improve their grasp of concepts. The data collected is then used to tailor-make a learning path for each child by providing micro-objectives on how they’re performing.
