Research is the key to 10 years' success at Ulovane

In the 10 years since its inception in 2005, Ulovane Environmental Training has grown to become one of South Africa's environmental training academies, whose mission is to increase the ethics of professionalism, excellence and conservation-minded guides who ensure guests receive a life-changing guided experience.

As a key to its growth, Ulovane has placed the emphasis on research, which has allowed the institute to keep abreast of the industry trends, developments and information, which is then implemented in its evolving curriculum. The courses include Career Focus courses, for entry level and Specialised Guide training courses for those who already have their FGASA Level One qualification.

Further, growth of the academy has its roots in student empowerment and high standards of on-site education, according to owners Schalk and Candice Pretorius.

New and refined skills

"We empower our students by coaching them with new and refined skills, which ensure that they can achieve challenges on their own because they believe in themselves," said Schalk. "We ensure that our trainers are always available for extra tuition to ensure that the slower learners keep up with the course progress.

"Our learners feel that there is constant personal growth and development because weaknesses are identified and dealt with sensitively and with an agreed plan and support to improve on these," Schalk elaborated.

Ulovane Environmental Training is an endorsed training provider under FGASA (the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) and has built an excellent association with them, due to high training standards and the excellent results that all previous Ulovane students have achieved.
