BET Software leaves a legacy with the South African Jockey Association

This Mandela Day, BET Software empowered apprentice jockeys at the South Africa Jockey Association (SAJA). As part of the company's 67 minutes of community support on Mandela Day, BET Software handed over 13 tablets that will be used by the apprentices to start tracking their daily work riding activities, racing performances, and study form and replays more efficiently. This eliminates the cumbersome task of the apprentices completing handwritten logs and then uploading these details at the end of every week.

The apprentices will do all this through the newly developed Hollywood Foundation Moodle app. This technology will add tremendous value to the apprentices. BET Software partnered with the Hollywood Foundation who have been supporting the South African Jockey Academy for the last three years by providing bursaries to apprentices. The young apprentices hope to follow in the footsteps of the winning jockey at this year’s Hollywood Durban July, S’manga Khumalo, who is a former SAJA apprentice.

Michael Collins, General Manager at BET Software, said, “BET Software is passionate about technology, and it is fitting that this Mandela Day, and month, we give back through education. We look forward to seeing the apprentices become world-renowned professional jockeys, and flying the South African flag high.”

Over 70 percent of the academy’s apprentices are unable to afford the training at the academy, therefore, the support allows them to focus on their riding and reach their full potential.

SAJA apprentice, Mfanelo Zuma, said, “I have learnt a great deal through my time at the SAJA, and these tablets can only make our work better. Thank you, BET Software.”

Siphesihle Hlengwa, who is also an apprentice, said, “My dream is to become a famous jockey, known throughout the world. I’d like to be a role model, so that my success can encourage other jockeys.”

Speaking at the handover at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Monday, Devin Heffer, Brand and Communications Manager at Hollywoodbets, said to the apprentices, “Hopefully we can keep seeing you all rise to the top, and you can keep making huge headway. Keep going from strength to strength, and all the best”.

Taryn Mason, from the SAJA, said the academy embraces 21st century technology, and adopts a scientific and wholistic approach to training, and this sponsorship will go a long way in assisting current and future apprentices. “Thank you, BET Software for this generous donation, and thank you to the amazing team at the Hollywood Foundation for the continued support of our apprentices.”
