The principles of the agreement with three unions - Sacu‚ the Communications Workers Union and Solidarity - provides a general increase for each job type based on 6% of the market's median salary for the job. Lower-paid workers will receive an additional increase.

"It is encouraging that our employees are willing to support the company's initiatives to ensure cost effectiveness and the sustainability of our business. Our determination to close the wage disparities has not gone unnoticed‚" said Telkom's chief executive Sipho Maseko.

The telecommunications group has undertaken to engage with the unions if the consumer price index moves above 7.5% and remains at that level for a minimum of six consecutive months during the effective period of this agreement.
