More credit for Vodacom customers

Vodacom announced today, Tuesday, 17 October 2006, that is expanding its offerings beyond that of pure telecommunication services with the November launch of its Vodacom Credit Card. To be issued under license of FirstRand Bank Limited and backed by Visa, it will offer Vodacom contract and top up customers access to credit with a range of lifestyle rewards and benefits.

Shameel Joosub, MD of Vodacom South Africa, says that the Vodacom Credit Card offers Vodacom contract customers a variety of exciting benefits that are synonymous with the Vodacom brand and that will add value to their lifestyle.

"As South Africa's leading cellular network, it is critical for Vodacom to not only embrace new markets but retain existing customers. With the Vodacom Credit Card we are meeting a specific need around the lifestyle of our existing customers. In designing the programme, we took cognisance of the current credit situation in the country and as such have opted not to offer customers credit for the sake of it. Instead we are providing creditworthy customers with special offers and discounts on items they would normally have purchased, thereby enabling them to save money."

Vodacom credit card holders can look forward to a variety of exclusive benefits and rewards in the areas of travel, leisure, safety and security, education and Vodacom products and services. Card holders will also be eligible for discounts at major retailers.

Joosub concludes, "Innovative services continue to play an integral role in retaining market share and it is in this regard that we continually strive to provide our customers with innovative lifestyle solutions designed to meet their specific needs, extending beyond communication services only - like the Vodacom Credit Card."
