Data Engineer

We are looking for a talented Data Engineer with strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join a fast-growing and dynamic team.

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures that power data-driven decision-making across the organisation. You’ll work closely with data scientists and analysts to ensure seamless data flow, enabling high-impact insights and innovative solutions.

We’re seeking someone who is analytically strong, self-motivated, and thrives in a fast-paced, unstructured environment. A genuine passion for African business, combined with curiosity and a sense of humour, will make you a great fit for this team.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable data pipelines and architectures using GCP technologies such as Dataflow, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage
• Develop and manage robust ETL processes to transform raw data into clean, structured datasets
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand requirements and deliver data solutions that enable insights
• Create and maintain clear documentation for data pipelines, architectures, and data models
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues to ensure minimal disruption
• Optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Automate workflows and processes to improve operational efficiency
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance across all systems
• Stay up to date with emerging GCP tools, best practices, and data engineering trends

Qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
• 5+ years’ experience as a data engineer or in a similar role
• Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and BigQuery
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Proven expertise in ETL development and data modelling
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

The reference number for this position is NG61157 which is a permanent Hybrid position based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town offering a cost to company of up to R1.4mil CTC negotiable on experience and ability.
