    Chairperson's report

In his report detailing the 2011 activities of the association, Naidoo said, "The past year has been trying and challenging on all fronts but also exciting as the profession entered an era of such tremendous change as the profession strives to re-invent itself and affirm its contribution to business.

"The primary objective set for the ACA for the year was to remain relevant to the members and broader profession by not only offering value-for-money for the subscriptions paid but by promoting the value of agencies and advertising to business success. In order to achieve this, the ACA Secretariat drove various Operations Portfolio Committees to ensure delivery on their respective goals."

Naidoo, who also thanked the 2011 board of directors, ended his report by saying, "Although the objectives set for 2010 were largely achieved, there is still a lot of work to be done to assist our members as they battle a recessed economy.

"The weeks ahead will be busier than ever"

"The weeks ahead will be busier than ever, with entry into 2012 Apex Awards officially open, workshops to assist entrants with their submissions being conducted in Cape Town and Johannesburg, workshops on the Consumer Protection Act and copyright laws underway, discussions regarding funding of the industry's requirements for research and self-regulation [being] at a critical stage and initiatives to address the debate on advertising of alcohol products are being launched.

"Four years ago, we set out to change the association into an organisation that is relevant and that delivers value and tangible benefit to its members in exchange for their subscriptions paid. Today, we have a self-regulator that is working for its members - one that is respected and whose opinion on matters such as transformation, legislation, tenders and pitches, industry trends and so much more."

The AGM was held at the Rand Club on Tuesday, 22 November 2011.
