SABC News is planning to expand its bureaux into Brazil, China, Jamaica and Ethiopia by April this year and will be opening seven more by mid 2009 and five more by 2012, writes City Press. The newspaper also reports that the SABC has hired armed bodyguards to watch over its head of internal audits Elsjie Oosthuizen, who is currently probing high ranking officials for corruption and fraud. Oosthuizen allegedly received threatening calls and was followed as she drove out of the SABC's offices in Auckland Park.
According to SABCnews.com, a memorial service for the late Isidingo star Ashley Callie, who played the part of Lee Haines in the soap opera, will be held on Thursday, 21 February 2008, at the Johannesburg Country Club. She passed away last Friday.
Weekend newspapers reports that the SABC has fired its event and marketing manager, Simphiwe Mthembu. According to an article that the Sunday Sun published, Methembu was given an ultimatum to either resign or be fired for being incompetent.
