Putting SA charities on the payroll

Compass Group SA has thrown its weight behind the Giving Organisation by signing up for its Payroll Giving initiative.

Payroll Giving is a simple, organised and unique way for Compass Group SA employees to support worthy South African charities. The advantage of the program is that it gives people an opportunity to contribute towards uplifting South Africa, and they are able to decide on the amount and duration of the contribution. Staff also indicates their preferred good causes, which are tallied across all companies and presented to the Trustees for future projects, ensuing long-term funding is allocated to projects they wish to support.

The programme has been branded “Give us 5!” because employees can choose to deduct as little as R5 from their salary on a monthly basis. R5 means very little to most individuals, but represents miracles for others, especially, if combined with other contributions.

Compass Group SA employees will soon be able to sign up for this worthy cause.

The Giving Organisation is a reputable organisation that aims to unite charities in South Africa, developing innovative ways of creating a sustainable source of income for them. All funds raised are paid directly into The Giving Organisation Trust Account, audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, and owned and managed by the trustees representing each charity.

“Our organisation has provided a conduit for 11 established and recognised good cause organisations to utilise their collective and collaborative brand power and resources to be self-sustainable,” says Mandisa Kalako-Williams, The Giving Organisation chairperson.

The 11 charities that stand to benefit from the Payroll Giving initiative are CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation, South African Red Cross Society, Cotlands, Reach for a Dream Foundation, World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa, National SPCA, Ithemba Trust, Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Centre for Africa, CANSA, Tomorrow Trust and the African Children's Feeding Scheme.
