Jamming on the media stickiness trend with Jam Media

'Jam Media' may seem an odd moniker for an agency but the 'Jam' part's actually an acronym of Director Jess Mouneimne's name. She also loved the connotations it had around stickiness, preservation and sweetness. And that's hugely important at the moment. Here's why...

You may have seen the name, but it's only been around for a few months. Mouneimne explains that Jam Media was launched officially - as a fully registered company that moved into offices and hired a team - just in December 2014, but she'd been working as a lone ranger since January of that year and never anticipated it would have become a six-strong agency with 17 clients just a few months later. But it grew over night and so she had to expand.

Ideal clients and where the magic happens

Now, as a 360-degree agency, Jam Media acts as a fully comprehensive outsourced marketing department for businesses with a passion for entrepreneurs and working with the pace and pressure that comes from the SME space. Their ideal clients are owner-operated, with a very small or non-existent marketing department, as "this is where we make magic happen," says Mouneimne. They do have a few corporate clients, such as Clicks Baby club and GNC, but that's not where we are positioning ourselves.

As a result, they're pulled into various creative processes daily. From clever brand activations to traditional PR and digital content marketing strategies, the daily process can best be described as high-energy, organised chaos. "We all pull together when it comes to creative, and while each account has its own key account manager, we pride ourselves in collective efforts," says Mouneimne.

And that's certainly paying off, with a number of key account wins of late. It started with Fast Company earlier this year. "We knew we had hot PR skills, but winning the digital account for Fast was a big stamp of approval for us," Mouneimne laughs.

The busiest day: Two brand activations, one launch event, 12 hours

More recently, they pulled off an 11-day Mandela Day campaign called #AMTSouperheroes, which was for client 'AMT World's Best Pan', which resulted in over R2m worth of coverage and trended on Twitter. So they're definitely on the right path.

And while Mouneimne admits it's possibly too early to wax lyrical about awards, because they have been blessed with so much business, they're a busy 'worker bee' agency. This involves hosting multiple events for various clients in a week - take 10 July 2015 as a shining example.

They did two brand activations as well as one launch event... all in the space of 12 hours. While it was a high-pressured day, the team pulled it off, making it a major highlight.

The future looks bright...

In terms of bright points to come, the agency is aiming for a few awards next year and wants to double turnover in the next eight months and hire some serious talent. It's a young team that brings energy and an eagerness to learn, but Mouneimne also aims on snapping up a talented senior player from a top agency and expanding their digital offering in the near future.

In terms of big trends still to come in 2015, Mouneimne predicts the live video streaming war to continue to unleash on social media. With Periscope for Twitter and Facebook just launching their live video version, live streaming video continues to be the hottest thing in digital right now. She loves Periscope and hopes more South Africans will start adopting it. While she deems Facebook 'Live' as promising, an inclusive, integrated app for all platforms would be first prize.

Sounds like the makings of a sweet, sticky business future dripping with moments of fun. For more on Jam Media, visit their website and follow Mouneimne on Twitter.
