Active citizenship describes an ethos where citizens take responsibility and the initiative to find solutions to social challenges faced by their communities and the country. The activation in Kwa-Zulu Natal is themed ‘be responsible’ to remind the young citizens to take ownership in addressing challenges they are faced with including education and job creation.

Play Your Part and Ukhozi FM seek to inspire citizens through workshops, mentorship and open conversations on taking responsibility in playing their part in reducing these ills and encouraging a positive lifestyle ahead of the festive season.

The citizens of Pietermaritzburg and Ladysmith will also be afforded the opportunity to interact with the innovative and interactive PYP Cube to share and collect inspiring stories from the community and pledge their contribution towards building a positive nation brand.

Brand South Africa brings along to the KwaZulu-Natal activation its partners, DJ Sbu’s Leadership 2020 and SABC’s One Day leader programmes, which promote leadership and entrepreneurship within society. In addition, KwaZulu-Natal’s active citizens, such as author and One Young World ambassador Malibongwe Xaba, inspirational couple Phindi Gule and Kevin Burley and musician Zakes Bantwini, will be there.
