Kfm nabs Ryan O'Connor

Popular Cape Town DJ Ryan O'Connor will be joining Kfm 94.5 from 1 November 2006, taking up the afternoon drive slot hosted by Allan Barnard, who is moving to CapeTalk to present the weekend breakfast show, Kfm's station manager Colleen Louw announced earlier this week.

Louw said Kfm was excited to welcome O'Connor to the weekday afternoon drive slot and said the station looked forward to a successful association with him. O'Connor is an accomplished broadcaster who has developed a loyal and growing following over several years in Cape Town. O'Connor has been a presenter with Good Hope FM since 1999, having hosted both breakfast and afternoon drive.

"Ryan is one of the rising stars on radio in the country and we believe our listeners will benefit from hearing him on the Western Cape's biggest and best radio station."

O'Connor said "I'm really looking forward to getting involved in a brand that not only represents Cape Town, but represents where I am in my life."

Louw described Barnard as "thoroughly professional and a consummate broadcaster" and said that while Kfm was sad to see him leave, sister station CapeTalk was thrilled to have him on board.

"We've reached a mutual decision that the timing is right for Allan to move into a new era in his radio career, and he's taken up the weekend breakfast show on CapeTalk," she explained.

Commented Barnard, "The timing is right for me to take on a new challenge and I'm very excited to have my sights set on new horizons. I'm really looking forward to being on talk radio in Cape Town and I'm very glad to be staying in the Primedia group."

Barnard will host the Saturday and Sunday breakfast show on CapeTalk from 7am - 10am. He will take up the post in February 2007 after a three month sabbatical.
