Johannesburg's premier music event, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, gave back this year with a free concert in Alexandra as part of its Jazz Cares initiative. This community outreach project gave audiences who wouldn't normally have the opportunity to experience top musical events the chance to take part in the jazz-travaganza. The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz - Jazz Cares Outreach Concert took place at the East Bank Hall in Alexandra on Thursday, 18 August 2011, as the countdown to the festival continued. In the audience were 500 pensioners, the partially abled and other selected groups from all regions of Gauteng. These Jazz Cares patrons were transported from several homes around Gauteng and treated to a day of wellness screening, pampering and live music.
