Mail & Guardian hits back at Gumede, SABC

NEWSWATCH: Nic Dawes, Mail & Guardian editor, explains why he was unable to speak at The Daily Maverick's The Gathering, yesterday, Thursday, 4 November 2010 and tells all about a rare event spotted at our national broadcaster. Meanwhile, according to IOL, tweeters have been paralytic with mirth over Julius Malema's threat to close Twitter, the ANCYL says 'white reactionaries' will be 'exposed' (what does it actually mean by that?) but Gwede Mantashe is not fazed at all by impersonators on Twitter, as reported by The Daily Maverick.

    For more:

    • The Daily Maverick: Nic Dawes: Why I had to miss The Gathering... Understandably, he had somewhat more important issues to handle and this is the letter that was read out at the event.

    • Mail & Guardian: Attack a defence in disguise... The SABC staged what Dawes reckons is a very rare event - an example of the broadcaster's 'investigative journalism', but with a rather unusual subject...

    • Times Live: Noseweek says Mail&Guardian reporter not corrupt... Sam Sole, the M&G investigative reporter at the centre of the corruption allegations, worked for Noseweek at the time of the alleged bribing.

    • IOL: Malema tweets rolling in... How tweet is this? Twitter users have been falling about laughing following the ANCYL leader's threat to close Twitter - Malema is very miffed over the antics of some Nonmalemas.

    • IOL: ANCYL to trace 'reactionary white people'... OK, all you reactionary white people out there... The former carpenter and his cohorts are Going To Track You Down! Be afraid... very afraid. You are going to be exposed (we're not sure, however, whether this means you will have your pants pulled down - this is, after all, what the ANCYL did a while back at some conference or other). One of the ANCYL's many spokespersons, Floyd Shivambu, told SAPA that "We are sure, when they get exposed, you will see it is white people. Reactionary, rightwing, white people," but when asked how the league was going to expose them, he got all coy: "We don't want to expose our strategy on how we will get them."

    • The Daily Maverick: Mantashe and Vavi, an uncomfortable marriage on show at The Gathering... Unlike Malema, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has no issue with impersonators on Twitter. Now how about that?

    • TechCentral: Of Twitter, parody and Julius Malema... So what is Twitter's stance on impersonation and satire? Find out more in this handy article.
