UNISA hosts international leadership guru

International leadership expert and North America President of the Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL), John Alexander, will be speaking at UNISA's Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) in Midrand on 8 February 2005. The Centre for Creative Leadership is an international, non-profit educational institution devoted to research and teaching on leadership in the private and public sectors worldwide.

The theme of Alexander's presentation, 'Trends in Leadership Development', will focus on how the CCL works with both individuals and organisations to enhance their leadership competencies. The appropriate use of the 360 degree feedback model, action learning and other techniques to meet these challenges will be addressed.

Professor Johan Rall, acting Executive Director of the SBL says: "Inviting such a distinguished individual, demonstrates the SBL's commitment to the development of leadership on the African continent as well as partnering with the best in the world to build capacity in Southern Africa."

During Alexander's presidency the CCL has achieved three consecutive #1 rankings in Leadership Development in Business Week's bi-annual non-degree executive education survey; consistent Financial Times Top 20 ranking in executive education providers worldwide; expansion of the Centre's operations in Europe and Asia; and growth of its customised programmes and research and publication activities.

As president, Alexander works closely with the Centre's board, senior staff, client organizations and partners to advance CCL's mission and strategy. The Centre's client list includes global Fortune 100 companies, national non-profit organizations, educational institutions and federal government agencies. More than 15 000 leaders from the US and 124 other countries attend the Centre's educational programs worldwide each year.

Alexander has published widely in a variety of publications and is quoted frequently in the media on topics related to leadership, executive development and governance. He also writes a regular column in Leadership in Action, a joint CCL-Jossey-Bass/Wiley periodical, and serves as a feedback coach to executives in select CCL programmes. He is a speaker and panelist at numerous conferences and forums, including the World Economic Forum.

Alexander has been a member of numerous civic and professional organizations. In 2002 and 2003, he served on the selection committee for Chief Executive's CEO of the Year. In 1999, he chaired Independent Sector's national Task Force on Accountability and the Public Trust, and has served as a judge for Harvard Business Review's McKinsey Award. He currently serves on the advisory board of the Forum for Corporate Social Conscience.
