KFC Global Express to steam into 5FM

5FM's new interactive Saturday show, launching on 1 November 2008, is intended to plug directly into the nation's youth culture. KFC Global Express with Poppy Ntshongwana debuts end of this week, and, in a first for 5FM, the show will feature live Internet interactivity with the presenter in studio.

“The content of the show will focus on worldwide trends and will profile talented artists, entertainers and sports people,” Ntshongwana explains. “It won't just be about music, but rather about what's happening socially, and we'll focus on what's relevant and entertaining for young South Africans.”

The 10am - 2pm show aims to keep listeners in tune with the hottest tracks and the freshest entertainment happenings on the planet, as well as right on their doorstep. It will feature stories sourced from across the entertainment spectrum - from celebrities, music, movies, television, sport and fashion to social networking, gaming and the Internet. Listeners will also be able to chat live with Ntshongwana or send a shout-out via the web.

Regular features

Complementing the KFC Global Express's dynamic format are regular features such as Around the World in 60 Seconds, with South African correspondents reporting from London and Hollywood on interesting slices of life in their respective countries, in addition to a peek at local events.

In the wake of the global financial meltdown, everyone's talking money, and this is where the weekly DJ Dollar insert comes in - dishing the dirt on how much moola celebrities and sports stars are coining, with a distinctly old-school twist.

According to the radio station, 24-year-old Ntshongwana is the perfect choice to host the show, as she's a naturally curious current affairs junkie. “I can't live without knowing what's happening around me,” she says. “I'm into fashion, lifestyle trends and pop culture!”

Throwing a bash

To give revelers a taste of what to expect from the spunky new radio show, 5FM is throwing a bash the same night, 1 November, at St Tropez in Bryanston, Johannesburg, featuring a DJ lineup “made in heaven”.

The lady of the moment, Poppy, will be MCing on the night, and the beats start pumping at 9pm when Sureshnie Rider hits the decks. She'll be followed by Grant and Anele at 10pm, Milkshake at 11pm, and Blacksheep (Mlu and Matt Suttner) at midnight. Sasha Martinengo will be chaperoning party-goers into the wee hours from 1am.
