Following a newspaper report on the termination of DJ Gavin Singh's employment contract by Jo'burg radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo, the station has responded to the allegations made by Singh, published in The
Star today.

In the article, Singh claimed, "he had done nothing in breach of contract and was very surprised by the station's instant decision". He continued by saying, "I did not partake in any form of misconduct and fail to see the reasons behind my abrupt dismissal".

94.7 Highveld Stereo's station manager, Ravi Naidoo has responded as follows: "The decision to terminate Gavin Singh's contract was not instant. It was a well-considered decision that was taken after due process. Singh's contract was terminated because he was permanently incapacitated due to ill health. An internal enquiry was conducted to investigate his capacity to work because he was absent on a number of occasions and often over long periods of time. The radio business requires consistency and Singh's irregular and long absences from work made the situation untenable. He would often contact management a few hours before he was due to go on air leaving us with little choice to find a suitable replacement.

"Gavin Singh fully participated in that internal enquiry, he made submissions to the presiding officer and those submissions were taken into account in the presiding officer's conclusion, which found that Gavin Singh was permanently incapacitated due to ill health."
